Baseball Recap: Cranford Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Cranford had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 7-3 to make it four. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the New Providence Pioneers. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won six in a row.

Gabe Arato spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Brayden Fry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Quinn Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for New Providence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8. The loss was just more heartbreak for they, who fell 7-5 when the teams last met back in April of 2024.

On New Providence's side, they got a good showing from Andrew Kruep, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, New Providence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Felt, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Looking ahead, Cranford will be playing in front of their home fans against Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Providence, they will head out on the road to challenge Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dodgers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight.
