3A Region 6 recap Sept. 26, 2012
McLaurin extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 6 this week by beating Leake Central, 41-19. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Forest was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Bearcats defeated Scott Central 41-6 earlier in the week.
Corderius Davis and Corderius Davis gave McLaurin a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Davis threw for 108 yards and one touchdown, while Davis ran for 153 yards. Teammate Eric McGee added to the ground attack by rushing for 126 yards.
Tanner Menist was the best wideout in the league this week as St. Andrews Episcopal lost to East Webster. Menist racked up seven receptions for 95 yards. Connor Woodall helped St. Andrews Episcopal's passing attack out by catching two balls for 34 yards.
Morton's Jymier Slocum and Devonta Jones have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Region 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Slocum has thrown for 931 yards this season, while Jones, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 17 catches for 425 yards. Chris Mazique from Forest leads the league in rushing with 523 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Marc Herrington's team takes on the Panthers. As it stands, the Tigers are in first, while Morton is in fifth.
McLaurin made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,612 from 4,845. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 41-19 victory over the Gators last week.
