Basketball Game Preview: East Providence Townies vs. East Greenwich Avengers

East Providence is 0-6 against East Greenwich since January of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The East Providence Townies will challenge the East Greenwich Avengers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

East Providence is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Smithfield, who was ranked 21st at the time (East Providence was ranked 13th). East Providence put the hurt on North Smithfield with a sharp 45-25 victory on Tuesday. The Townies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, East Greenwich was able to grind out a solid win over Lincoln on Tuesday, taking the game 37-29. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Avengers.

East Providence's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.0 points over those games. As for East Greenwich, their record is now 9-11.

East Providence might still be hurting after the 63-39 loss they got from East Greenwich in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can East Providence avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
