Basketball Recap: Somerset Comes Up Short

After flying high against Pearsall last Friday, Somerset came back down to earth. The Somerset Bulldogs fell 46-37 to the Floresville Tigers/Jaguars on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1211th, while the Tigers/Jaguars are ranked 528th).

Jordin Johns had an outrageously good game for Floresville as she went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points along with seven boards and six assists. Johns is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Alissa Hilario, who posted nine points and four steals.

Somerset has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season. As for Floresville, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-13 record this season.

Somerset has already played their next contest (against Uvalde), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Floresville will welcome Pearsall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Floresville's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Pearsall has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
