Soccer Game Preview: Columbus vs. Gulliver Prep

The Columbus Explorers will take on the Gulliver Prep Raiders in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbus' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Tuesday, Columbus didn't have quite enough to beat MAST Academy and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Explorers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Makos are ranked 33rd).

Columbus' goal came courtesy of Santiago Montoya, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Gulliver Prep came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 goals) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Raiders.

Gulliver Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which somehow still isn't as good as their 10-1-1 record this season. As for Columbus, they now have a losing record at 4-5-2.
