Football Recap: Hidalgo Pirates vs. La Feria Lions
Hidalgo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They took a 27-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Feria Lions. The matchup was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Pirates couldn't quite close it out.
Loss or not, Hidalgo got some senior leadership from Ian Szczuroski and Jeremy Martinez. Szczuroski rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns, while Martinez. rushed for 134 yards.
Even though they lost, Hidalgo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 240 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Hidalgo wouldn't let La Feria keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Anthony Warren was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Jaden Martinez went supernova for La Feria, rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Hidalgo's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for La Feria, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.
Hidalgo will challenge Rio Hondo at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Feria, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Raymondville at 7:30 p.m.
