Preview: St. Martinville Tigers vs. Leesville Wampus Cats
The St. Martinville Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Leesville Wampus Cats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Martinville's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They blew past Crowley 67-39 on the road. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
St. Martinville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Steven Blanco, who rushed for 355 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 18.7 yards per carry. Blanco really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run. Kaden Zenon also helped with three touchdowns in total.
Meanwhile, Leesville waltzed into Friday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. Everything went their way against Rayne as Leesville made off with a 53-32 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Leesville had established a 20 point advantage.
Xavier Ford was his usual excellent self, rushing for 316 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Ford is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Farley, who picked up 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
St. Martinville's win pushed their record up to 3-7, while Leesville's bumped their own up to the opposite: 7-3.
St. Martinville came up short against Leesville when the teams last played back in November of 2018, falling 53-49. Thankfully for St. Martinville, D'ante Gallashaw (who rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
