Basketball Recap: South Charlotte Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hickory Christian Academy last Thursday, South Charlotte came back down to earth. The South Charlotte Thunder fell just short of the Surry HomeSchool Runnin' Patriots by a score of 40-37 on Monday. The Thunder have struggled against the Runnin' Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, South Charlotte saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mya Aitchison posted 15 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Aitchison a new career-high in points. Caroline Gidney was another key player, putting up five points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, South Charlotte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

South Charlotte's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Surry HomeSchool, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12.

South Charlotte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 43-26 loss against Westminster Catawba Christian on the 6th. As for Surry HomeSchool, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-26 defeat against Greater Cabarrus S on the 6th.
