The South View Tigers will head out to take on the Gray's Creek Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South View will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Gray's Creek's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: South View hadn't allowed a single run the last five times they've hit the field. South View never let Purnell Swett get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Friday. The three-run effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
PAIGE FORD was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of MADDY CLARK, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
South View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Gray's Creek hadn't beaten Lumberton on the road since April 12, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. Gray's Creek put the hurt on Lumberton with a sharp 10-0 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.
Hailey McFarley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gray's Creek got a massive performance out of August Kebort, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Amber Miller was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Gray's Creek's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for South View, their record now sits at 7-0.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .500. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South View beat Gray's Creek 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will South View repeat their success, or does Gray's Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
