Softball Game Preview: Pinellas Park Patriots vs. Countryside Cougars

The Pinellas Park Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Countryside Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Pinellas Park lost 13-2 to Hollins on Thursday. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Royals recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Pinellas Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danielle Overman, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Khloe Birk also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Pinellas Park hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Countryside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against East Lake, falling 14-2. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly 12 runs.

Pinellas Park's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Countryside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Countryside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pinellas Park has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for Countryside, though, as they've only averaged .290. Will they be able to contain Pinellas Park's hitters?

Pinellas Park couldn't quite finish off Countryside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can Pinellas Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
