Basketball Recap: Ricky Yanez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Portage over Mcfarland

Portage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 62-36 to the McFarland Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 425th, while the Spartans are ranked 82nd).

Portage lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ricky Yanez, who posted nine points. Michael Nachreiner was another key player, putting up six points and ten rebounds.

Portage's loss dropped their record down to 2-21. As for McFarland, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Portage didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-50 defeat against Lodi on the 28th. McFarland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
