Softball Recap: Cherryville Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Cherryville took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against East Gaston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Cherryville had just enough and edged out East Gaston 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Ironmen: when they faced off against the Warriors last Tuesday, they had to take a 13-3 loss.

Grace Capps spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Proctor, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kate Mulvey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Cherryville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for East Gaston, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherryville will challenge Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Gaston, they will square off against Forestview at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
