Basketball Recap: Catalina Foothills Takes Down Willow Canyon in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Catalina Foothills walked away with it. They breezed past the Willow Canyon Wildcats to the tune of 77-43 on Thursday. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Willow Canyon's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kandace O'Connell, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points and five steals. O'Connell has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jailynn Pope, who posted 16 points and four steals.

Catalina Foothills' victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points over those games. As for Willow Canyon, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-9.

Catalina Foothills wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-59 win against Notre Dame Prep on the 1st. Willow Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
