Baseball Recap: Broadwater Academy Takes a Loss

Arcadia hit Broadwater Academy with a four-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell just short of the Firebirds by a score of 9-7. The Vikings' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Eli Destro was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Broadwater Academy: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-9-1 otherwise. Destro was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.

In other batting news, Owen Terry and Aidan Fuller did some serious damage despite the final result: Terry got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Fuller went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Cohen Kellam was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Broadwater Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-10-1. As for Arcadia, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Broadwater Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Arcadia, they will be playing at home against Isle of Wight Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Firebirds surely won't give up without a fight.
