Basketball Game Preview: Plainwell Trojans vs. Mattawan Wildcats

The Plainwell Trojans will face off against the Mattawan Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Plainwell and five for Mattawan.

Back in December of 2024, Plainwell had to suffer through a 45-18 loss at the hands of Vicksburg. The match marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 69-19, which was the final score in Mattawan's tilt against Marshall on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Redhawks are ranked 54th).

Plainwell's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mattawan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Plainwell came up short against Mattawan in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 54-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mattawan's Delaney Elsmore, who went 5 of 11 en route to 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
