Softball Recap: Fairview Comes Up Short

Fairview had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it six. They fell just short of the Cross Lanes Christian Warriors by a score of 8-7. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

As for Cross Lanes Christian, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 24th.

For Cross Lanes Christian's part, Cassidy Witt was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Witt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Izzy Harper and Paige Graham did most of the damage at the plate: Harper got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, while Graham went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. Mary Franke was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fairview beat Cross Lanes Christian by a score of 16-7 later that day.
