Baseball Game Preview: St. Joseph Lancers vs. Westosha Central Falcons

St. Joseph hasn't had much luck against Westosha Central recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Lancers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Joseph 2.8, Westosha Central 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, St. Joseph made easy work of St. Catherine's and carried off a 25-1 win. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 16 runs or more this season.

Brock Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dominic Santarelli, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Rizzo, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

St. Joseph always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Catherine's only posted an OBP of .250.

Meanwhile, Westosha Central came up short against Wilmot on Tuesday and fell 8-3. The loss was the Falcons' first of the season.

Benjamin Smet-Cooper was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Sieler, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Having lost for the first time this season, Westosha Central fell to 4-1. As for St. Joseph, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
