Softball Game Preview: St. Michaels Saints vs. Kent Island Buccaneers

The St. Michaels Saints will square off against the Kent Island Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Michaels will be strutting in after a victory while Kent Island will be coming in after a defeat.

St. Michaels is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Washington on Wednesday as they made off with a 27-9 win. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Mercy Haddaway made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Haddaway was even better at the plate, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lola Browning, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. Kaelyn Hicks was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Kent Island came up short against Colonel Richardson on Tuesday and fell 10-6.

Abby Mahaffey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3.

Kent Island's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for St. Michaels, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

St. Michaels might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from Kent Island in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Saints avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
