Basketball Game Preview: Central Carolina Academy Eagles vs. Cornerstone Charter Cardinals

The Central Carolina Academy Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Central Carolina Academy is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Neuse Charter last Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Eagles were beaten by the Cougars 85-30. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-13.

Despite the defeat, Central Carolina Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jax Gaddy posted 16 points. That was a full 53.3% of the Eagles' points, marking the third time in a row Gaddy has earned more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Cornerstone Charter beat Clover Garden School 49-44 last Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.

Central Carolina Academy better keep an eye on Charles Walker. He was instrumental in Cornerstone Charter's win, shooting 69% from the field to rack up 23 points along with eight boards and five assists. Walker also posted two blocks, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Shaffrey, who had four points in addition to 12 rebounds and five blocks.

Central Carolina Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Cornerstone Charter, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Central Carolina Academy took a serious blow against Cornerstone Charter when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 63-16. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Eagles were down 49-8.
