Gunnison Valley comes up short despite Maile Ha'o's dominant performance

Recap: Gunnison Valley Bulldogs vs. Grand County Red Devils

The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs suffered their biggest defeat since November 21, 2023 on Saturday. They suffered a rough 54-34 loss at the hands of Grand County. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Gunnison Valley has suffered against Grand County since January 30, 2016.

When it comes to explaining why Gunnison Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maile Ha'o. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points. Ha'o continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Rylee Bartholomew was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.

Cadence Kasprick was her usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with nine steals for Grand County. Another player making a difference was Gemma Phillips, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.

Gunnison Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Grand County, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunnison Valley and North Sevier will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Grand County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Panguitch at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Panguitch is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
