Softball Recap: Avenal Comes Up Short

After flying high against Firebaugh on Friday, Avenal came back down to earth. The Buccaneers fell 13-9 to the Exeter Monarchs on Saturday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Buccaneers, who until this contest were averaging 4.07 runs allowed.

Khloe Nieto led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Avenal's loss dropped their record down to 11-3-1. As for Exeter, their record now sits at 11-6.

Avenal didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 12-2 defeat against Chavez on the 14th. As for Exeter, they have also already played their next game, a 16-15 victory against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy on the 12th.
