Baseball Recap: Mckeel Academy Makes It Five in a Row at Home

McKeel Academy waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Lake Gibson Braves by a score of 7-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 back in February.

McKeel Academy got a great performance from Caleb Clanton as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Clanton gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Aedan Tompkins was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jorge Cordova, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

McKeel Academy pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Gibson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKeel Academy will head out to face off against Lake Placid at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Gibson, they will venture away from home to take on Santa Fe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
