Recap: South Summit Wildcats vs. Summit Academy Bears

The South Summit Wildcats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They pulled ahead with a 57-56 photo finish over Summit Academy. Given South Summit's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Summit Academy is ranked 100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Summit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gage Mckee out in front who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Woolstenhulme, who scored 17 points.

When it comes to explaining why Summit Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Colbyn Draper. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Lance Green, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.

South Summit pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Summit Academy, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-6 record last season and are now at 5-8.

South Summit will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Parowan at 3:30 p.m. on December 16th. As for Summit Academy, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Hopefully Taylorsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
