Softball Recap: St. Margaret's Scotties vs. Collegiate Cougars
St. Margaret extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-9 in the process. They lost 20-0 to the Collegiate Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 20-3 loss on Friday.
As for Collegiate, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-14. That 20 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
For Collegiate's part, Austyn Ennis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Ennis posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Collegiate got a massive performance out of Mary Ann Zyglocke, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Zyglocke has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Addison Barnes, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Coming up, St. Margaret's will face off against Northumberland at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Scotties' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season. Collegiate does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
