Softball Recap: Maynard's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Maynard duked it out with Gardner on Monday. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 2-1. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Jillian Macfarlane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maynard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Schmidt, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Another was Ryleigh Raschi, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Maynard's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3. As for Gardner, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Maynard and Gardner should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 25th) will meet Bromfield (ranked 211th) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Gardner will take on Murdock at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (74 vs. 230). The timing is sure in the Wildcats' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Blue Devils have been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
