Basketball Recap: Clayton Sets Scoring Season-High Against Garner

Clayton fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Garner on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garner Trojans. One positive for the Comets, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

When it comes to explaining why Clayton lost, don't look at Y'Zana Lee Randle. Despite the final result, she posted 30 points. Lee Randle's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Stevens, who earned 11 points.

Garner got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sumayah Jones out in front who dropped a triple-double with 14 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 assists. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in blocks (seven). Aniyah Williams was another key player, going 13-for-22 to rack up 36 points along with six boards and three steals.

Clayton now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Garner, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.

Clayton has already played their next matchup, a 90-20 loss against Southeast Raleigh on the 4th. As for Garner, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-37 victory against Fuquay - Varina on the 4th.
