Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Triumphs

While St. Augustine's win against Cathedral Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saints sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Dons on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-4 on Monday.

St. Augustine got a great performance from Grayson Boles as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Boles has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Augustine's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mikey Ruiz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Ruiz has posted since back in April.

St. Augustine has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cathedral Catholic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-10.

St. Augustine will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
