Basketball Recap: Platte Valley Comes Up Short

Platte Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 44-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Liberty Common Eagles. The Broncos were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Platte Valley still got an impressive performance from Regan Edstrom, who posted 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals. That's the most steals Edstrom has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rocco Minner, who put up six points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Liberty Common to victory, but perhaps none more so than Pierce Richardson, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 18 points and seven boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Richardson has scored at least a third of Liberty Common's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daegan Thayer, who earned eight points and nine rebounds.

Platte Valley's record is now 5-15. As for Liberty Common, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Platte Valley will challenge Wray at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Liberty Common, they will face off against Windsor Charter Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Windsor Charter Academy will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Liberty Common surely won't give up without a fight.
