Basketball Recap: Martin County Skates Past Pamlico County with Ease

Martin County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pamlico County Hurricanes 78-37. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 21 points or more this season.

Martin County was led to victory by Kamarion Larry and Jordan Matthewson. Larry went 8 of 14 on his way to 22 points in addition to five boards and four steals, while Matthewson dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. Matthewson is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Moore, who posted eight points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Martin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Martin County's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Pamlico County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Martin County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-60 defeat against Tarboro on the 3rd. As for Pamlico County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-46 loss against Havelock on the 8th.
