Basketball Recap: Guy Vickers Key Part of a Team Effort in Bridgemen Win

While Fort Lee didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They greeted the New Year with with a 56-42 win over the Bergenfield Bears. Given the Bridgemen's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Bears are ranked 335th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fort Lee got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Guy Vickers out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards. With that strong performance, Vickers is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Jake Erlich, who posted 13 points.

Fort Lee was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Fort Lee's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Bergenfield, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Lee will face off against Dumont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bergenfield, they will square off against NV - Demarest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
