Football Recap: Hope Christian Huskies vs. Thoreau Hawks

Hope Christian and Thoreau squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Hope Christian had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Thoreau Hawks by a score of 22-20. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 19-13 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2022.

Hope Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Breylon Willams, who picked up 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Roman Montoya, who threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Willams showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 57 yards. A healthy portion of Montoya's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) also went to Darrien Williams.

Hope Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Willams and Williams. Willams' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 136 receiving yards.

Hope Christian's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Thoreau, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Hope Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Thoreau has already played their next contest, a 55-0 defeat against St. Michael's on the 16th.
