Baseball Recap: Durham Academy Triumphs

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durham Academy). They had just enough and edged out the East Chapel Hill Wildcats 10-9 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cavaliers have posted since April 16, 2024.

Durham Academy let Benjamin Kuo and Amare Burrus run wild. Kuo scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Burrus scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Burrus a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Collin Hernandez, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Durham Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Durham Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for East Chapel Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Durham Academy and East Chapel Hill will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Durham Academy will take on rival Cary Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, East Chapel Hill is set to face off against their familiar foe Northern Durham at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
