2A/1A Rocky River recap Sept. 26, 2012
Union Academy moved up to 296 from 333 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A/1A Rocky River. The Cardinals were able to make the jump by beating the Cardinals 40-3.
North Stanly was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in the league. The Comets beat Central Academy 45-14 earlier in the week.
Antonio Williams was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 301 yards on 31 carries as North Stanly bested the Cougars. Kasey Caulder also contributed to the rushing game with 35 yards on the ground.
Quashaun Chambers put up the best numbers through the air as Monroe topped Union Academy. He finished with a total of four completions for 62 yards and one touchdown. Chambers' favorite target this week was Lavonte Baker, who caught one pass for 51 yards.
Fesperman was the best wideout in 2A/1A Rocky River this week as Ralph Jackson's team defeated Central Academy. Fesperman racked up two receptions for 56 yards. Williams helped North Stanly's passing attack out by catching one ball for 30 yards.
On the ground, the Comets' Williams has rushed for 1031 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Emmitt Afam. The Cuthbertson star has 29 catches for 406 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Forest Hills takes on Piedmont. As it stands, the Yellowjackets are in first, while the Panthers are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when the Redhawks and North Stanly face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Monroe comes in having scored 160 this season, while the Comets have scored 154. Daniel goings's team scored 40 points last week as it bested Lynn Keziah's team.
The Cardinals made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,258 from 11,595. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 40-3 victory over Union Academy last week.
