Basketball Recap: Morgan's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

If Morgan was feeling good fresh off their 66-21 takedown of Westbrook last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Morgan Huskies fell just short of the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils by a score of 50-47 on Friday. The Huskies' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Morgan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sadie Passante, who posted 17 points along with seven steals and six assists. Passante has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Grenon, who went 6 of 15 en route to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Morgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Maddy Benbow was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 20 points. Shayla Vazquez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Morgan's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Coginchaug Regional, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Morgan will be playing in front of their home fans against Hale Ray at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coginchaug Regional, they are taking a road trip to square off against North Branford at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
