Centralia came tearing into Saturday's matchup with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Mt. Vernon Rams by a score of 44-32. Given the Orphans' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Rams are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Mt. Vernon still got an impressive performance from Brogan Holloway, who posted 12 points. Cale Maurer was another key player, putting up five points.

Centralia pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Mt. Vernon, they moved to 13-6 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Centralia will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mt. Vernon: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
