Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Kenston Bombers

The Mayfield Wildcats will head out to challenge the Kenston Bombers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Mayfield came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Lake Catholic by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

JD Sega was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Ben Koret, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Mentor hit Kenston with a five-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bombers came up short against the Cardinals, falling 12-5. The Bombers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Kenston saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Kaltenbach, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Ethan Bennett also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Kenston's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Mayfield might still be hurting after the 17-9 defeat they got from Kenston when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
