It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Taylorville had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They skirted past the Rochester Rockets 40-37. The win was all the more spectacular given the Tornadoes' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd in Illinois, while the Rockets are ranked 130th in Illinois).

Several Rockets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eli Cox, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Khordell Gregory, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 11 points and five steals.

With the victory, Taylorville broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 15-17. As for Rochester, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-12 record this season.

Taylorville will square off against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rochester does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
