Softball Recap: La Joya Community Takes a Loss

If La Joya Community was feeling good fresh off their 28-10 takedown of Glendale last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fighting Lobos fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 14-13 on Thursday. The Fighting Lobos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 28-10.

Anaya Romero made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Hayley Melendrez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-6.

La Joya Community's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Glendale, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Joya Community will take on Independence at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Fighting Lobos surely won't give up without a fight. As for Glendale, they will challenge Sierra Linda at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
