Mayfield is 8-2 against Polytechnic since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cubs will square off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Mayfield has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Polytechnic will come in with five straight wins.

Rio Hondo Prep hit Mayfield with a seven-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cubs lost 13-1 to the Kares.

Meanwhile, Polytechnic got the win against Chadwick on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-8. Considering the Panthers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Amelia Shih made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dannika Rivera was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Ellery Engstrom was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs and one RBI.

Polytechnic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Mayfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Polytechnic, their record now sits at 13-3.

Mayfield suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Polytechnic when the teams last played on April 7th. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
