Baseball Recap: Fort Payne's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Fort Payne had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Southside Panthers by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 6-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Griffin Winn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Fort Payne's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Malcolm Jackson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Blake Griggs was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Fort Payne's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Southside, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 19-6.

Fort Payne will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
