Basketball Recap: Elm Creek Takes Down Ranked Bertrand

Elm Creek faced Bertrand in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Buffaloes put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 65-41 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Buffaloes just coasted through the last quarter.

Elm Creek was led to victory by Quin Oberg and Kolten Keim. Oberg went 11-for-21 on his way to 25 points and six steals, while Keim shot 86% from beyond the arc to rack up 18 points and four steals. Oberg's big performance that evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Erickson, who posted 11 points and six boards.

When it comes to explaining why Bertrand lost, don't look at Scottie Bieker. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Bieker is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Thunder Nelson, who put up 12 points and eight steals.

Elm Creek's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Bertrand, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Elm Creek wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-40 win against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller on the 12th. As for Bertrand, they have also already played their next matchup, a 66-61 victory against Pleasanton on the 12th.
