Softball Recap: Providence Academy Comes Up Short

If Providence Academy was riding high fresh off their 17-7 takedown of Valley on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Providence Academy fell 4-1 to the First Baptist Academy Eagles on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against First Baptist Academy this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in March.

Ella Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Providence Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Caldwell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was Caldwell's first of the season.

Providence Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for First Baptist Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence Academy will welcome King's Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for First Baptist Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Austin-East at 5:30 p.m.
