Baseball Recap: Central Magnet Extends Winning Streak to Four

Fulton typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Central Magnet proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Falcons. Considering Central Magnet has won five matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jon-Mical Courtney made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Central Magnet is 3-1 when Courtney allowsthree or fewer earned runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Courtney was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Elijah Bonner was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Justin Morris was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

The win was the fourth in a row for Central Magnet, bringing their record up to 7-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.5 hits in those games compared to only 5.1 in the others. As for Fulton, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 14-1.

Looking ahead, Central Magnet will head out on the road to square off against Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lawrence County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Central Magnet's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fulton, they have already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Greenback on the 29th.
