Softball Game Preview: Rocky Mount Academy Eagles vs. Halifax Academy Vikings

For the first time this season, Rocky Mount Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Halifax Academy Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Neither Rocky Mount Academy nor Halifax Academy posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Friday just wasn't the day for Rocky Mount Academy's offense. They lost 8-0 to Freedom Christian Academy on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Halifax Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Roanoke Rapids on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 4-1 to the Yellowjackets.

Payton Odom spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Emma Inscoe was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

Halifax Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Rocky Mount Academy suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Halifax Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Rocky Mount Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
