Preview: Lakeview Gators vs. Red River Bulldogs
Lakeview is 2-8 against Red River since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lakeview Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Red River Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
Lakeview started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Winnfield. They took a 30-14 bruising from the Tigers on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lakeview in their matchups with Winnfield: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Lakeview had strong showings from Lamarion Rushing, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Omarion Pierr, who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown. Pierr is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Meanwhile, Red River's nine-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. Everything went their way against Jonesboro-Hodge as Red River made off with a 32-8 win.
Red River's victory bumped their season record to 1-5 while Lakeview's defeat dropped theirs to 3-3.
Lakeview was taken down by Red River 40-6 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Lakeview, Shaylon Newton (who picked up 156 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
