Soccer Game Preview: St. John's vs. Stall

The St. John's Islanders will venture away from home to take on the Stall Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. John's knows how to get goals on the board -- the team has finished with four goals or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Stall likes a good challenge.

St. John's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Military Magnet Academy with a sharp 9-0 victory. St. John's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three games.

Their offense was hitting Military Magnet Academy from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Omar Mercado led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, after soaring to five goals the game before, Stall was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell 2-0 to Philip Simmons. While losing is never fun, Stall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Philip Simmons are ranked 18th).

St. John's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matches. As for Stall, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

St. John's couldn't quite get it done against Stall in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can St. John's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
