Baseball Recap: Xavier Prep Victorious

Xavier Prep's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Cathedral Phantoms by a score of 4-1.

Xavier Prep got a great performance from Brandon Siqueiros as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. What's more, Siqueiros posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Elijah Castro and Zain Valdivia did most of the damage at the plate: Castro got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Valdivia went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Castro is becoming a predictor of Xavier Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Vanjuan Vladimirov, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Xavier Prep's win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Cathedral, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xavier Prep will square off against Palm Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cathedral, they will face off against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
