Softball Game Preview: Wilton-Lyndeborough Warriors vs. Pittsfield Panthers

The Wilton-Lyndeborough Warriors will take on the Pittsfield Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilton-Lyndeborough has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Pittsfield will come in with four straight victories.

Wilton-Lyndeborough lost 28-2 to Mascenic Regional on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Pittsfield made easy work of Nute on Monday and carried off a 16-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Alivia Lavigne and Alex Penney made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Lavigne struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Penney struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Lavigne went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Penney got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one double. With that strong performance, Penney is now averaging an impressive 2.7 runs per game.

In other batting news, Ashley Clark was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Nika Pereira was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Pittsfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .543. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Pittsfield's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wilton-Lyndeborough, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
