Baseball Recap: Rauner Takes a Loss

Rauner lost against Thornton Fractional North back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Meteors by a score of 9-8. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Carlo Alvarado was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Rauner's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Lucas Ghanimah was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with seven stolen bases and three runs. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Anaya, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Rauner's record is now 7-9. As for Thornton Fractional North, with the victory, they broke their 11-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-12.

While Rauner had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
