Softball Recap: Shead Takes a Loss

Shead had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it five. They lost 12-2 to the Jonesport-Beals Royals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 14-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Jonesport-Beals, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

For Jonesport-Beals' part, Aspen Alley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Alley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melody Gray, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Macie Faulkingham was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Shead does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jonesport-Beals, they will challenge Machias at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Royals surely won't give up without a fight.
